   I’ve owned 4 of these over the years. Only reason I’ve had to replace them is because cause of theft or losing them haha! Probably the best AA flashlight for the money. I’ve dropped them, dropped them in a pool, run them over and they just keep working. Great flashlight I recommend to everyone. Especially in the automotive profession.

   Great little light. I carry this every day at my job as a dealership mechanic for inspecting and working on all the dark and hard to see parts of a car. Its tough enough for professional use. The light is very bright and at night you can see out very far with the beam. I like the color of the light as well. Its very white and while its not the most natural looking light it provides very good definition for seeing the fine details of what you are looking at. Battery life is great for how bright it is. I love the ten tap programming feature. I don’t need a strobe or low power function and its great that i can set it to high only and not have to go cycling through strobe and low settings if i hit the switch too quickly. The switch took me a bit to get used to but mostly because its different than the light i bought it to replace. Its recessed into the aluminum frame slightly and after getting used to it i like how it protects the rubber cover that’s over the switch from abrasions or tearing. I chose streamlight because i have a couple of weapon mounted lights made by them that have worked very well for me. This little light follows form. Highly recommended. 5/30/16 update. over a year in and it still works pretty much like new. Lens looks new. Switch still feels good. Still using it at work carrying it in my pocket 5 days a week. Its held up well, visibly worn but looks tough like it been doing its job well for a long time. it seems like it goes through batteries a little quicker than it did a year ago but still going strong, it did develop an audible and sometimes annoying battery rattle when carried in any pants pocket after about 4-5 months but I’m a mechanic and cars aren’t hard to sneak up on so I’m still using it. Streamlight is worth the extra bucks.

   Everybody likes long-term reviews, right? So I bought this thing back in mid-2018, currently early 2022 as of writing. Part of my EDC, and I literally use it daily. I have dropped it off of houses. I have dropped it in the toilet. I have dropped it in the pool. I have used it in the driving rain. I have dropped it in mud. It has been in the lake and covered in fish guts. It has sat through heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow. The black finish started going almost immediately with regular pocket carry next to keys, which is why my once-black flashlight is now a nice patina of mottled silvery metal. My *one* complaint – and this is minor overall – the LEDs tend to flicker on and off and become vibration-sensitive in a way when the batteries get low. I don’t know why it only ever happens with low batteries, but changing them always fixes it. I’ve also stretched the engcap spring a bit on occasion to make a tighter battery connection on the negative end and hold them in tighter. The electrical tape around the end cap is there because, well, if you know you know, and if you don’t then it’s because biting down on metal is at times rather uncomfortable. Overall, I’ve beat this light to hell and back for years and it’s still going strong over three years in. Even now, with fresh batteries you can see the beam on the ground in broad daylight. I can reliably get good illumination at 200 ft with fresh batteries, and easily to 50-100ft with dying batteries. I’d say that’s worth the $40.

   ProTac 2AAA: I had owned the ProTac 2AA for 7 years of daily use, but lost it somewhere and it hasn’t shown up in a month so I bought a replacement. I decided to drop down in size to the 2AAA, 20 lumens on low, 150 lumens on high. I prefer the Low-High program. I’ll tell you what this little light surprised me. I find low is perfect for most tasks, high is needed for better reach. The throw is only good to about 50 yrds. I can shine my barn at 100 yrds away but can see minimal details. But for work I’m not shining stuff more than 20-30 feet usually, most is within 5ft. I would call this a fantastic inspection light, stuff about 10-15ft away like equipment lights up great. That’s all I need it for so it’s my EDC. Much more comfortable to carry in shirt pocket compared to 2AA. I bought the 2AAA and Thrunite ti4 at the same time, I expected to love the ti4 and have the 2AAA as my back up. I ordered the natural white (vs cool white). I hated the light so much I’m returning it and it’s first time I have ever returned anything from streamlightoutlet.com. The natural white on the ti4 was way too amber, wood looked yellow, drywall looked like a heavy smoker lived there, I couldn’t do it. I wanted to exchange it for the cool white but can’t do that, I have to return the one and buy another. I like the 2AAA so much I ordered a 3AAA Dualie from Streamlight instead to have around the house. I don’t like firefly mode, too dim. Didn’t care for having to click twice for low and 3 to get high. High is brighter than the 2AAA but was more of a flood, I thought I would prefer that which I didn’t really. The run times on the ti4 were a good bit shorter also. I get free batteries but don’t want to carry extra batteries with the light lol. I liked the ti4 clicker a bit better than the 2AAA’s clicker which I found to be pretty stiff. All in all the ti4 is going back and 2AAA will stay for a very long time. I still expect my 2AA to show back up but I think it’s the 150 lumens version, they have upgraded it since to 250 lumens and 18 lumens low will run over 40 hours. 2AAA low is 15 hours. The 3AA dually is 175 lumens and will run 15 hours on high! I had my eye on the LED Survivor but I’m not trying to horde lights here lol. I have other 2AA lights I don’t use one is EagleTac and bushnell. Both good lights just not EDC for me. I’m not a Prepper but when I found lithium ion batteries have a shelf life of 20 years I ordered 48 energizer ultra lithium batteries and a 500 S&W ammo case to keep them in. $65 investment that has a shelf life of 20 years, when I need AA batteries for lights I’ll have them now since all but one light runs off AA’s. I have done that purposely over the years so I don’t have to buy 15 types of batteries.

   This light is exactly what I wanted for edc. I had the streamlight stylus pro last time, but found it was not bright enough. This new pro tac is much brighter, throws farther and still fits in any pocket comfortably. The battery life in low, which is good enough for most circumstances, is great. In high mode it’s still good for it being a small light. In high mode it shines as bright as I need it too, about 3 times brighter then stylus pro. The build of this light is great, feels of quality, and the recessed programmable button clicks tightly and securely. The programming ten tap function is a great thing as well. I like that I can chose what the button function does. I will say, this is my new edc and my stylus pro lasted 4 years, I hope to see that service life from this light. Great little light.

    Beware, this isn’t the 2AA-X model. This is the normal 2AA version. I’m not going to give it a bad review as the basic version is good too. But I wanted the X version. The x version has different knurling and supposedly 20 extra lumens with the alkaline batteries.

    I have had this flashlight for over a year, it has been my personal carry light the whole time using through out every day. I have to say it has never let me down. with much abuse and being dropped on to steel grates, concrete, rocks from distances of 8ft. it has always performed the way it should. Light output is good and very consistent. it has a nice hot spot with enough spill. battery life is as advertised about two hours on high. that would get me through a week of daily use. things I have noticed is if the batteries are low light output will be sporadic meaning it will go from a dim to bright and to dim again constantly. if the tail cap isn’t all the way tight it wont light. that’s no big deal just tighten it. I have also noticed that the glass lens cover looks like it did day one after a year of use. I posted a picture of it vs. a mini Maglite I carried for 2 months. to switch between modes isn’t that hard like some reviews make it out to be. I gave one of these lights to my father that he now carries but he was able to figure it out after a few tries. I would and have recommended this to many friends. it is a great light as the 2000 + reviews say. you cant go wrong buying this light.

    This flashlight is extremely nifty… Not a super bright light but after doing research it shows that only 100 lumens are needed to cause pain and temp blindness.. Just a 100 lumenis needed for that! The only reason why I docked a star is because the strike bezel on the flashlight is made to smooth and in line with the light in such a way that this would be almost the same as using a mag light as a striker.. The bezel needs to be longer to be more effective than a maglight or any other tubular flashlight. As it stands the bezel rest basically on the plastic bulb cover for the flashlight one strike may break the plastic cover and the led it self. Also this is kind of funny what looks to be a bezel on the light is no more than slits cut into the light giving the look from a distance or on the web as a semi pointy poker thing…it’s not it’s just a regular tube with smooth depressed cuts.. All of this is solved by making the bezel at least 1/2″ longer than the rest of the light… Then only then would this be what I was looking for
