   *Weapon is safe and unloaded* I’m extremely impressed with the customer service of Streamlight. If you’re looking for a review from a person that REALLY runs their gear, look no further. I was recently doing an urban combat course, it was pretty rigorous. I was climbing an obstacle and fell, with the majority of the impact landing onto the TLR-1. The weapon fell between my body, and concrete. I crushed the face cover, as you can see in the photo. The quality aspect comes from the fact that the LIGHT STILL RAN. I couldn’t believe it could take that type of abuse and still operate. I completed the course with a crushed light, without issue. What impresses me with Streamlight, is the fact that this accident was 100% my fault. I told a representative at Streamlight about the incident, and offered to purchase a new face for my light. The representative sent me one, free or charge. She said: “We want to make sure our products work, all the time.”… I was blown away. 3 days later, and I had the part. Good as new. I was so happy with the service that I bought a couple more to add to my course, and duty pistols. The light itself is bright enough to get the job done. The switches allow for you to manipulate the light by “sweeping” your trigger finger either up or down. One direction is a constant on. The other is a “hold to activate”… this makes it so you can flash an area and go “light off” again just by releasing your finger. It’s great to gain a quick advantage without revealing your position too much. The “constant on” selection stays put, and keeps the light activated during rapid fire, drops (haha) and day-to-day drills. The light is rugged, and survives strenuous work. My first TLR-1 was attached to one of my pistols, and it has held for well over 10,000 rounds without issue. A quick few turns, releases the light, so you can mount it on just about anything. The illumination and field of view within the beams parameter is outstanding. The outside portion of your natural point of aim also stays brighter, giving you a good view of possible targets in the corners, away from the light. Now, that being said… do yourself a favor and save some money in the long run by buying yourself a couple sets of rechargeable batteries, and a charger. It’ll save you a ton of grief. This light really is quite impressive. And as a person who works on range, and shoots four times a week… I recommend you try it.

   Stop buying crap and get this at minimum. If you are trusting your life to a quality weapon; attach a quality light. No; not all of their products are made in this USA and that’s a bummer. But even Surefire uses globally sourced parts and assembles them here. So chill out surefire snobs; your not special, just wealthy. This light has stood up to the test and is still rocking. If you have one you have none, if you have two you have one. With that being said they will replace the lens if you shoot soooooo many rounds it clouds permanently or you smash it in. Having an extra lens and battery door is basic practice for anyone that doesn’t like waiting on someone else to get the job done. Especially if no one is coming to help, even streamlightoutlet.com 😂

   After a lot of searching and comparing I finally decided to settle on the TLR-1 w/ the strobe function versus getting one with the laser option. My first impression on opening the package and holding the light was that it is a sturdy light. It does not feel cheap and have a clean look to it. I bought this light for my Sig P320 Compact and it fits perfectly. The light came preset for a Glock rail, but had the adapter keys for the other rails as described in the description. Only took about 2 minutes to swap out, mostly my fault due to not ensuring the hex nut was flush before installing the key as the directions stated. The light does extend a past the barrel/frame but I do have the compact frame so it was expected. I imagine with a full size frame it would be close to flush with the frame/barrel. The flip switch is very easy to manipulate to use either steady on, momentary, or strobe with a single finger. When activated, the light is very bright! Even in a well lit room during the day, you can see the beam on the wall across the room. The same can be said for the strobe function as it is just a bright and very disorienting. I have not shot yet with the light attached so I cannot speak to how it affects the muzzle flip, but based on the weight it add to the front of the gun I have a feeling it will stabilize the flip some.

    I have a Springfield XD 40 Service and I love this light! This light is blinding day or night. Seriously, YOU CAN NOT LOOK AT IT! Just a glimpse and you’re seeing spots for minutes after. It is ruggedly built, bright as all, and asthetically pleasing to the eye (when it’s turned off that is). It is a little wider than my weapon, but this is not a problem for me since the person breaking in won’t see it. It comes with two 3-volt CR123A lithium batteries which are easier to change out than the TLR-1 (the previous model) and are supposed to have a 10-year storage life. They are not cheap to replace, but from the reviews I have read on streamlightoutlet.com you are better off finding them local (like at Radio Shack) and paying a couple bucks extra to guarentee full charge. At 4.18 ounces this light adds a little to the end of the weapon, but is hardly noticable (at least to me). After reading the reviews for this model and it’s predecessor (the TLR-1),.. out of 119 reviews NOT ONE WAS BELOW A FOUR STAR RATING. Comparing that to other “cheaper” and “lighter” lights, my decision was easily made. When it comes to the protection of my family, I would rather pay a little extra for something ‘once’ and know it will be reliable. The strobe feature is nice as well, but may not be practical for most. With a quick “double tap” of the switch YOU CAN LOCK THE STROBE ON, but like any other tool you should practice with it to retain “muscle memory”. Really though, unless you are storming a building full of insurgents, I think you should be ok with just the steady beam. If you have medium to large hands (like me), you can toggle the switch with either the thumb from your supporting hand, or the index “trigger finger”. The rocker switch makes it easy to use and is much less likely to come on accidentally (like the cheaper lights) and drain your batteries. All in all, I believe the TLR-1s is THE best light for the money. Hope this helps 🙂
