   Disclaimer: I have run many high end weapon mounted lights and currently run three other streamlights on my CCW weapons and EDC rotation. I have used Surefire scouts, Modlites, and have seen Cloud Defensive Rein beams in action during live fire events I have attended. The Good: 1) Tight hotspot with 50,000 candella improves your hot spot and blinding power to any suspected threat. Inside of 25 years this light is basically blinding. I have shined myself in the face with this at distance compared to other streamlights with 25K candella, and Fenix lights with 18K candella, there is a noticeable improvement in blinding power. 2) The light also stays cool while running on high as compared to other lights in this category, no noticeable step down on longer run times. 3) Tail cap push button is nice and tactile (more on the tail switch later…) 4) M-Lok mounting system is amazing. Nice and tight up against the handguard. The Bad: Two parts: Beam rings & loose tail switch connector 1) As shown in the pictures, the beam profile and head design leads to an INSANE AMOUNT of rings in the beam of light, these rings are all different colors and span from the inner hot spot to the flood light. In most scenarios I can count approximately 5 rings of light. This isn’t a concern for long range applications, but anything within 25-50yards, you are going to notice these rings. Why this is bad? In any CQB or indoor/close range situation, these rings can deflect off walls and lead you to focus on them/disrupt your field of view. If these rings didn’t exist, I would give this like a 4/5. 2) The tail switch connector is horrible. It is WAY TO LOOSE for fighting rifle/duty rifle applications. Such similar platforms like the surefire and cloud defensive are much tighter fitting, taking good effort to remove them. This tail switch can be easily flicked out accidentally and is about as secure as your iphone cord plugging into your iphone, but looser. 3) HLX-PRO only adopted the momentary on tape switch, so the only way to use constant on is with the tailcap itself. I would have liked to see the tapeswitch have both function like the old HLX. To perfect this light: 1) Remove the 4-5 rings in the beam of light profile, that is absurd. 2) Improve the retention of the tailswitch mount into the back of the light, IE Surefire style. 3) Utilize the tape switch with dual function (previously found on the HLX model) Due to these issues I cannot recommend this light, unless you love a bizarre amount of rings in your beam profile.    The ProTac 1000 lumen HL-X Pro is perfect. I was impressed by the flashlight’s throw, can easily illuminate out to 500 meter because the 55,000 candela. The 1000 lumens also produces a good pattern with plenty of flood and a powerful central hotspot. Mounting is a breeze, 2 options included: 1913 Picatinny as well as M-Lok, lockup on both is super solid. Love that is comes with a redundant tail switch as well as pressure switch (momentary only) with 1913 Picatinny mount for the switch all included. A lot of other WML will require you to buy a pressure switch and/or remote switch mount separately. Other lights may also require you to purchase a specialized tailcap to have the switch and redundant tailcap switch. Well worth the money for what you get, you can buy 2 for the price of some other brands….you know which brand I mean.

   For the price, you can’t beat these lights. My first light has been mounted for over 2 years with roughly 3k rounds through the rifle and I haven’t had one issue with the light or pressure switch. I now own 4 of these lights. Highly recommended

   First Impressions: Compared to the Olight PL Turbo (800 L, 66k C) in my darkened garage, hotspots at 20′ appear to be of equal diameter, but the Olight hotspot is slightly brighter w/a more defined edge (66k C vs 50k C). The Pro has a slightly wider spill but, more importantly, it’s definitely brighter than the Olight’s spill (1k lumens vs 800 lumens) which improves situational awareness (while not bad, I’ve always wanted a little more spill brightness from the Olight). When comparing the two simultaneously, I can finally see the Olight’s green tint others have mentioned but I wasn’t really aware of it until now. The green tint doesn’t bother me, not sure what all the fuss is about. The Pro w/remote switch is about 3oz heavier than the Olight. Remote plugs seat firmly in the Pros, but not with as positive a click as w/my Streamlight TLR-1 Long Gun Kit remote plugs, we’ll see if they’ll dislodge over time from recoil. Ten-tap programming works as advertised, but I wish the high/low option would default to ‘high’ instead of ‘low’ when first activated as this means if you want ‘high’ you have to double-tap past ‘low’ to get there. Not good if you need ‘high’ RIGHT NOW. For now, mine are set on ‘high’ only. Mine’s going on a Tavor X95 bullpup and the longer length of the Pro almost entirely eliminates bbl shadow on the X95. I also use a vfg so was pondering how best to locate the remote switch. I like having the switch on the vfg, but that can lead to accidental activations w/o a lockout feature on the light. Fortunately, a quarter turn of the tailcap deactivates the light so I’m going to experiment w/the vfg placement for now, my only other workable option is to mount the switch on the left-side picatinny rail which is doable but slightly awkward to access when using the vfg. I like the new remote switch rail clips w/the cable management built-in, it adds routing options. However, they’re also a little soft, easily marred when using tools to seat them properly on the rail. It’s getting cold here, but I’ll see if I can get out to the 24/7 range to compare the Pro & Olight’s relative throws. Is the Pro a huge upgrade over the Ologht for me? No, it isn’t, the Olight is a simple, elegant & lighter weight solution for my X95 WML needs. However, the Pro does offer certain advantages like the ability to maintain full power for the entire battery runtime, less bbl shadow, better spill/situational awareness, less chance of accidental activation & Streamlight’s proven track record as a decent budget WML solution. Should the Pro eventually reveal hidden flaws, I may go back to the Olight PL Turbo, but for now I like this new Streamlight and am looking forward to putting it through its paces. Five stars for now! ETA: Just finished a night shoot, the attached pic shows the 50yd target slightly to the right and the 100yd target centered in the beam. The 200yd target was visible to the eye (but not in the photo) and could be engaged w/sufficient target contrast. The HL-X Pro does a good job of burning through firing gasses and has very good spill & situational awareness. The more I use the HL-X Pro, the more I like it!
