   I saw a YouTube video saying that the Glock model (69290) fit the Springfield XDS better than the model for this Springfield XD (69291). I ordered both and I confirmed this is true. Pictured here is the 69290. The light can slide up and back on the rail a little, so I jammed some paper in next to the trigger guard while installing and it set the light firmly in place. You can see that it’s not a perfect fit, but it is pretty darn close. I definitely like it better than the TLR-8, which I also had to try. The 100 Lumens is much dimmer than the 500 of the TLR-8, but it does the job. Even 100 Lumens is painful if shined in the eyes while indoors, during the day. It will light up your target at night at self defense ranges. I’m sure the TLR-8 has better throw, but you might have a hard time explaining to the district attorney why you felt your life was in danger from someone that far away. My only gripe is the position of the switch (minus 1 star). I cannot reach it with my trigger finger without shifting my grip. It is easy to find with the support hand thumb, if you are working 2 handed. I do like the TLR-6 switch much better than the TLR-8. But I am spoiled by the paddles on my old X2. They were the best. The electronics in the TLR-6 are not nearly as protected as the TLR-8. The TLR-8 has a gasket seal to keep water out. You’re not likely to douse your pistol in water anyway… but the TLR-6 offers zero protection against water entry to the electronics. Bottom line, it will do. But I am ordering the Crimson Trace and the Viridian for comparison. I will pay more to get an accessible switch. Update: the Crimson Trace and the Viridian CL5 are accessible with your trigger finger, without shifting your grip. This is MUCH better in my opinion.

   The light and laser are sufficiently bright and the operation of the light is seamless. The various modes allow you to use it as a light, laser, or laser and light combo. I find it a tad difficult to use the light in momentary mode by holding the button, but tapping for it to stay on works well. Install was fairly straightforward and it fits my Springfield Armory XDM Elite v2 9mm perfectly. It is attached very sturdily and the small form factor of this light has little impact on the weight of the firearm. The form factor is small enough that even with a simple Bianchi Leather Strip Style Holster, the pistol fits comfortably and is still easily concealable. My biggest concern when buying a light for my pistol was small form factor. This light makes it seem like it is practically built-in. It reminds me of the built in lighting system on a Taser X26. I like that about it.

   Great value from reputable company. No over estimating on the lumen rating and no snake oil here, just a decent powered light and laser that’s holds a zero like it belongs on a real firearm. There are some good generic lights/lazers but you won’t go wrong with stream light.

   When I opened the box my first impression was that the unit felt flimsy and cheaply made, particularly when I compared it to the all-metal TLR-7 that I also own. However after installing the unit my impression changed. Its a perfect fit and a perfect color/texture match for my Springfield XD-40 Service Model. It looks like a factory installed accessory and feels more sturdy once securely mounted to the XD trigger guard. The laser was very close out of the box and almost co-witnessed with my Trijicon sights without adjustment. 9 yards seems like the optimal distance to minimize parallax errors and the windage adjustment made it easy to correct the slight off-center misalignment. The flash light is low power and suitable for about 10 yards only. This is expected because it uses a smaller battery than the TLR-7. The on / off switch is ambi but not conveniently placed. You have to stretch your finger out of the trigger guard to turn it on or off and cycling through options requires two hands. This may be better on compact XD models. I also feel that the on / off push button switch is flimsy and I would not be surprised if that is the first point of failure. I’ll update my review to reflect longevity / reliability once I’ve used it for a while. Overall, for a hundred bucks its a decent buy for your XD and adds effectiveness to the weapon in low light, sub-ten yard, self-defense scenarios.

   The TLR-6 is the first modification I made to my Springfield XD9 4″ and M&P Shield 9mm, and it almost looks like a factory add-on. Installation: there are 3 hex screws that clamp the left and right housing to the light & laser cartridge assembly. Using the included hex wrench, remove the 3 screws, take off the outer shell/housing where you had accessed the screws, then rest the firearm into the remaining half of the housing. Press firmly until the firearm’s trigger guard is tightly seated into the housing, then take the other half of the housing and firmly press it into place and reinstall the 3 hex screws. Lastly, unsnap the latch on the bottom of the TLR-6 to access the battery compartment and install the 2 included 1/3N size batteries (positive side facing the latch); Streamlight only recommends Duracell or Energizer brand batteries. Operation: the TLR-6 has 3 settings: laser only, light only, then laser + light. These settings can be cycled by pressing both the left and right side buttons simultaneously. Pressing only one of these side buttons will toggle on/off the last chosen setting. The laser can be calibrated by using the included hex wrench on the screw openings on the bottom (horizontal/wind adjustment) and left (vertical/elevation adjustment) of the TLR-6. To zero/calibrate the laser sight, I went to an indoor shooting range and placed my target at about 10 feet. I then adjusted the laser to be roughly on point with the iron sight on that same target, then adjusted the elevation screw depending on high/low my bullet strikes actually landed. Worth noting that the distance you use to zero the laser will determine how high/low your bullets will strike. If you shoot at a distance less than your zero range, the bullet will strike high and vice versa for shooting at a distance greater than your zero range. Overall I’m very happy with the TLR-6. It has a near matching factory finish when compared to my XD9, and it was relatively easy to operate. My only feedback would be to engineer a tool-less installation design and/or one that doesn’t require a total disassembly of the shell housings from the laser/light cartridge to install.
